Growing up in a small farming community in Southeast Manitoba, Jason Kirkness found his heart in country music. Since then he has been heavily influenced by the new Nashville sound while never straying too far from his roots in older country and classic rock.
Jason has been a mainstay on the Winnipeg music scene for close to 10 years. He is most well known for being the front man and main songwriter for the band Rainside and later on for Brave Stereo. Jason has a knack for being able to write the elusive “hook” for a song as well as hear one in songs that have been written for him.
Currently Jason is working through the demo process with Unison Studio's producer/manager, Jack Shapira, to end up with what will hopefully be a full-length record in 2009. Both Jason and Jack have been searching out new songwriters to work with Jason including locals Phil Deschambault, William Prince, Jay Tooke as well as hitting up some of Jacks Nashville contacts like Nathan Mecklel and Melissa Montgomery and Justin Levinson from SESAC Nashville. Justin is the head of artist repertoire for SESAC. Jack will also be looking to well known ex-Winnipeg Murray Pulver, who now lives in Nashville.
Jason has been on tour throughout 2008 with his band and they will continue to connect with country music audiences through their live show across Canada in 2009. Dates are already confirmed in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and the Northwest Territories. The core members of the band have been touring together regularly since 2004 with dates across western Canada, the Northwest Territories and a few festival dates in the northern States.
